As shown in Figure 6, 815 grants (36%) were investigating aspects of invasion, 670 (29%) were looking at metastatic colonization, 177 (8%) were studying intravasation and circulation, 47 (2%) focused on immune surveillance/escape, 26 (1%) were investigating arrest and extravasation, and 13 (1%) were studying metabolic deregulation. A total of 295 awards (13%) could not be categorized into a metastatic stage and were classified as “other”; and 238 (10%) were classified into more than 1 metastatic stage.
