MYTH: Metastatic breast cancer only affects women.

TRUTH: About 1 in 755 men get breast cancer as they age, which can become metastatic.

American Cancer Society, 2025

People often think that I’m just…well, a guy. But the truth is, I’m a guy living with metastatic breast cancer. This is my experience, and here’s what I want others to know about living with MBC.

We all know the stats that 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer. But the stats for men are 1 in 728, and if you go to the metastatic route, it’s 1 in 7,200.

While those numbers are rare, it’s certainly not the rarest disease. But to be honest, we do face some discrimination in not being the “normal” breast cancer patient. I hope that my story helps people understand the realities of metastatic breast cancer—and male breast cancer.
