NONPROFIT MEMBER: Metastatic Breast Cancer Network
The Metastatic Breast Cancer Network (MBCN) is a patient-led, not-for-profit national organization, founded in 2004 to address the unique needs of metastatic breast cancer patients who often feel ignored and misunderstood. MBCN was the first breast cancer non-profit in the U.S, whose efforts were solely devoted to metastatic breast cancer. MBCN’s mission focuses on educating and informing patients about the disease, its treatments, and how to get the best care; empowering patients to use their story and voice to make others aware of the needs and challenges of metastatic patients; and advocating for research focused treatments for metastatic breast cancer that will lengthen the lives of patients. In addition, MBCN awards financial support to scientists and researchers who work to further define the subtypes of metastatic breast cancer and find more effective treatments. In 2012 MBCN was the catalyst that caused several representatives from various breast cancer organizations to convene and discuss the creation of an Alliance to make sure that Stage IV or metastatic breast cancer was addressed within all breast cancer organizations. In 2013 MBCN became a founding member of the Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance.
