I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) after my very first mammogram at 38—no family history, no genetic mutations, and no warning signs. I had a double mastectomy and later a liver resection, and today I have no evidence of disease, but that does not mean I’m cancer-free.

What I wish people understood about MBC is that it can happen to anyone—at any age, at any stage, and even years after being told you’re “cured.” Early detection doesn’t always save lives, and that’s why we need more research, more funding, and more honest awareness about what metastatic breast cancer truly is.
