How do I join the Alliance?

Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in becoming involved with the MBC Alliance.

Applications for membership from individuals and organizations are assessed using various criteria, including the following:
  1. a commitment to working collaboratively and cooperatively with other Alliance members
  2. a desire to help promote the work of the Alliance and its members via social media and other networks
  3. a willingness to contribute resources and assets relating to advancing the efforts and the Alliance
  4. a pledge to not misrepresent or disparage the Alliance, its members, or its activities

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

Organizations have the opportunity to join the Alliance in one of two categories:
  • Nonprofit: A nonprofit organization committed to the mission and vision of the Alliance and to pro-actively planning and executing initiatives including contributing necessary time and talent resources
  • Industry: Pharmaceutical and biotech companies committed to the mission and vision of the Alliance and to pro-actively planning and executing initiatives including contributing necessary time and talent resources as well as financial support
Individuals may join the Alliance as either an Individual Living with MBC or as an Independent Patient Advocate.

Nonprofit Organizations have the opportunity to join the Alliance as a:
  • Member: nonprofit organization committed to the mission and vision of the Alliance and to pro-actively planning and executing initiatives including contributing necessary time and talent resources.
  • Supporter: nonprofit organization that endorses, promotes and generally supports Alliance activities in furtherance of its vision and mission.
NOTE: Nonprofit organizations are not required to make a financial commitment of any kind to join the Alliance. Activities of the Alliance that require funding are supported by the unrestricted financial contributions of the pharmaceutical and biotech members.
Responsibilities include:
  • Contributing to implementing and monitoring activities derived from the MBC Landscape Analysis
  • Attending Alliance meetings via video conference and in person. Wherever possible, in-person meetings will coincide with other breast cancer conferences, e.g., SABCS, ASCO
  • Sharing knowledge and information on research, lessons learned, success stories, case studies, program results and policy approaches to help accelerate actions to meet the needs of MBC patients
  • Supporting Alliance activities and initiatives through technical expertise, staff time, and assistance with social media and networking
  • Actively participating on Alliance Task Force(s), subcommittees, and/or Working Group(s)
Membership applications are reviewed based on:
  • Desire and willingness, as an organization, to endorse, promote and support the values, general principles and activities of the Alliance as reflected in its vision, mission, and goals
  • Demonstrated engagement in cancer advocacy
  • Commitment to working collaboratively and cooperatively with other Alliance members
Decision Process:
To begin the membership process, please complete and submit the Membership Application form below.
The Executive Group (the governing body of the Alliance) meets every six weeks. Once your application form has been submitted, unless additional information is required, you should expect to hear from us regarding a decision within two months.

Pharmaceutical and biotech companies committed to the mission and vision of the Alliance and to pro-actively planning and executing initiatives including contributing necessary time and talent resources – as well as financial support – have the opportunity to join the Alliance.

Responsibilities (depending on membership category) include:

  • Supporting Alliance activities, which can include direct and indirect funding for MBC initiatives, technical expertise, staff time, and assistance with social media and networking
  • Actively participating on Alliance Task Force(s), subcommittees, and/or Working Group(s) 
Membership applications are reviewed based on:
  • Desire and willingness, as an organization, to endorse, promote and support the values, general principles and activities of the Alliance as reflected in its vision, mission, and goals
  • Demonstrated engagement in cancer advocacy
  • Commitment to working collaboratively and cooperatively with other Alliance members

Both individuals living with the disease and independent patient advocates committed to the mission and vision of the Alliance and to pro-actively planning and executing initiatives including contributing necessary time and talent resources have the opportunity to join the Alliance. 

Individuals are not required to make a financial commitment of any kind to join the Alliance. Activities of the Alliance that require funding are supported by the unrestricted financial contributions of the pharmaceutical and biotech members.

Responsibilities include:
  • Understanding and supporting the mission and objectives of the MBC Alliance as described in the Landscape Analysis published by the Alliance in 2014
  • Staying current on patient concerns, issues, and interests as they relate to metastatic breast cancer
  • Responding, after reflection and discussion among the other individual members, with a unified patient perspective to Alliance initiatives
  • Submitting new ideas or initiatives to the Alliance leadership team for consideration. Such ideas or initiatives should further the mission and objectives of the Alliance
  • Offering recommendations which will enhance Alliance written or website communications to both the metastatic breast cancer community and the public
  • Acting as Alliance Patient Ambassadors to promote the mission and initiatives of the Alliance to MBC patient advocate groups and MBC individuals via individual social media channels or blogs
  • Attending virtual meetings approximately once every six weeks
Membership applications are reviewed based on:
  • Demonstrated pro-active interest/expertise in patient advocacy work
  • Professional/personal skills that can be leveraged by the MBC Alliance to support the Metastatic Breast Cancer Community
  • Ability and commitment to support the MBC Alliance’s mission and objectives

FOR CURRENT ALLIANCE INDUSTRY MEMBERS ONLY

The Patient/Advocate Advisory Group (PAAG) of the MBC Alliance includes individuals who are living with metastatic breast cancer and who are willing to collaborate with industry members on initiatives that would benefit from the patient perspective. If your organization would like to engage group members, please complete the following request form.
